| Sandstone information | |||
| Sandstone is a sedimentary rock composed mainly of sand-size mineral or rock grains. Most sandstone is composed of quartz and/or feldspar because these are the most common minerals in earth's crust. Like sand, sandstone tiles may be any color, but the most common colors are tan, brown, yellow, red, gray, and white. Sandstone tiles are amongst the more porous natural materials and are usually used in external applications.
Unlike many basic sandstone tiles now available in riven and clipped edge format our selection is supplied in a fixed thickness of 20 or 30mm with smooth reverse and sawn edges. Several types of surface finish are available
The advantage of these tiles is that quite narrow joints can be achieved thus these sizes are ideal for more contemporary external projects.The large format size allows scope for many innovative and dramatic applications.You can mix the same materials with different surface textures such as an area of Flamed with inlays of Honed and the length of 1000mm available in some materials means you can create steps and risers etc. The Flamed versions are ideal for exterior swimming pools See our FAQ page for more information |
